Selected grants and awards

In May of 1980, Howard received an award in Art from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in recognition of the creation of works of distinction.

Howard received the Prix de Rome in 1980 for his exceptional work in bronze sculpture.

The Tiffany Foundation Award was given to Howard Newman in 1978 on the recommendation of sculptor Theodore Roszak.

In 2013, Howard received the Preservation Honor Award from the AIA for his work on the restoration of Richard Lippold’s “Trinity” in the Church of Saint Gregory the Great at Portsmouth Abbey.

Newman was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to Italy in 1961, where he and his wife Mary lived in Impruneta, south of Florence. It was there Newman began making bronze sculptures.
