Fine Art

From 1970 through the early 1990’s Howard devoted himself to his own sculpture, drawing and painting, with eight one-man shows in New York’s Cordier & Ekstrom and Gimpel & Weitzenhoffer Galleries, at the Hokin Gallery, Palm Beach, Florida, and the Feingarten Gallery, Los Angeles.

Newman’s work is in the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Newark Museum, and the Newport Art Museum, Newport, Rhode Island. His work has been acclaimed by critics Hilton Kramer, Grace Gleuck and Vivian Raynor of The New York Times, Emily Genauer of The New York Post, Hedy O’Beil of Arts Magazine, and Channing Gray of The Providence Journal-Bulletin.

Newman has received awards from the Academy of Arts and Letters and the Tiffany Foundation. He is a Fulbright Scholar and a recipient of the Prix de Rome.
